Pat McFadden and Frances O'Grady on Green Jobs

Green industrial strategies: Green Jobs, Green Skills and a Just Transition

The debate around the UK’s green industrial strategy is now critical for our members in all sectors - in industry, transport, energy supply, public and private services - and in our greenworkplaces.

At a joint TUSDAC/Unions 21 fringe event at TUC Congress a major publication that brings together union perspectives on climate change and industrial policy was launched.

2009 is a without doubt a crucial year for the UN's climate change negotiations, leading to a new global climate change deal this December in Copenhagen. How we safeguard jobs and achieve the huge cuts in CO2 that Governments are expected to call for in Copenhagen, as well as adapting to climate change already in the system, are massive questions for trade unions and their members.

Business Minister Pat McFaddan and Deputy General Secretary of the TUC Frances O'Grady spoke about the opportunities and challenges for green investment, green skills and low carbon regions.
